    crankcase position sensor ??

    Got a 2001 Chevy 2500hd 8.1L
Close to work yesterday it started choking and trying to die if I touched the gas pedal. In the parking lot it finally died when I was trying pedal reaction in different gears, then would not restart. Towed to a nearby orielys and pulled a p0335 code. Crankshaft position sensor failure. I replaced the sensor and the truck still will not start.

Has anyone else had experience with this sensor? I've read that some folks have to do crankcase relearn by a shop or use a TECH II scanner, yet others don't...

I don't have a TECH II scanner and can't get seem to get a clear direction on if I have another issue or if it must have the relearn done before it will start

Don't know if it will work, but have you tried disconnecting the batteries ? Let it sit ,then rehook and try.

I'd try changing the fuel filter. Was your check engine light on with that code or did it just pull up with the scanner?

Not familiar with a crankcase position sensor. Are you talking about a camshaft position sensor?

My NISSAN has two Crankshaft sensors. One (1) I can replace myself and the other one (1) unless you have special tools and a lift ... difficult. The local mechanic only charged me @ $70 so not a bad deal for avoiding busting my knuckles.

Youtube your car model/make and the video was great at walking me through the process.

No errors on the dash, no other codes beside the p0335 crankshaft position sensor. I disconnected the batt just before I walked in to work. Same issue when I came out of work. Did have spark on the plugs. I installed a new fuel pump assembly and filter back in February.

It hit me last night that I didn't hear the fuel pump priming when the key was rolled forward, just before start. Power to the pump checked out good. I pulled the fuel filter and rolled the key forward....no fuel shooting out! Got a new fuel pump this morning, installed it and we are back up and running. It didn't hit me to really check the fuel pump since I had just replaced it a few months ago. and before replacing the sensor, the truck would idle while it acted up when the throttle was touched before it finally died. Had a code checker scan again and no codes, all clear.

                  Fixed and running great again!

Crank sensor fault will occur if continued cranking and no start. Fuel pump is prob I bet and result is no start and crank sensor code. Jmo Robert
