They are both just as good depending on model.

IMO, pick up German glass and never look back! My Nikons and Leupolds are nice, but pale in comparison to my Swaro and Minox.

That being said, between the two pick the model that suits your needs the best.

I have both Nikon and Leupold glass and like them both a lot.
For what you laid out I'd give the edge to the Leupold.

I'm have no direct experience with the models that the OP is asking about. But I can share that I bought a Nikon Monarch based on all the positive feedback from Opticstalk forum. I did not think the Nikon scope was as clear or as bright as my Leupolds (VX-III and VX-3); so the Nikon is now mounted on my 22lr and works great. But for a deer rifle I prefer the Leupolds.

Most bass pro shops have a cabin up in the air by the elevators look in the dark window an see which one you can see the board panels on other wall thur window. Bet the vortex is better.

I have both and prefer the leupold but as it has been mentioned they are more expensive. I have no problem with the nikons I have either. I have heard people mentioning about the leupold warranties but I have never had to send a scope back for repair.

                    Scope

You will be very happy with Nikon's PROSTAFF 5 3.5-14 Custom XRT turret. I have been using one for 2 years now and the accuracy, clarity and reliability are great. I do shooting event's with Nikon and these scopes get a lifetime of shooting in one weekend. They have to stand up and work every shot. A good rangefinder to dial in the correct distance is also important to have.

Any worries about Nikon's No Fault Policy should be put to rest by the below 60 sec. video.

I'd say Leupold out of those two for sure. I had a Nikon monarch and didn't like it at all at high magnification. The mid range vortex hold up against a Leupold in my opinion.

For about the same price the zeiss conquest has much better glass. Just for giggles look at the Nikon leupold and the zeiss side by side. I did and zeiss won hands down.

I won't ever buy another Nikon product, my experience with them has been they're products are a waste either buy a leupold or Zeiss. Glass is not something to be cheap with.
