    I love a good deal

Stopped by Walmart yesterday on my way home from working on the camp to look at their tree selection. I found 18 chestnut trees from 5'-7', marked at $29.97 ea. Called the manager out to see if we could work a deal on the whole lot, plus they had 1 persimmon I told him I'd take as well. I walked out with all 19 trees for $102. That's $5 a tree folks. Now figuring out where I want to plant them will be the fun part.

Reason for discount? Just because you bought a lot?

I'm looking to do the exact same thing. I need about 40 trees total but the Wal-Mart near me doesn't have much besides shade trees

Super nice deal you got BTW

I think because they have had them for a while. It's my understanding that the company that WM gets these trees from ships them in the fall, so they had been there a while. But they are all very healthy looking trees

You sir have a whitetail honey hole in the back of your truck. Wish I had that for our GA place. Nicely done.

Also, if anyone wants persimmon trees, go find a wild persimmon tree and go dig up all the saplings under it. Will be surprised how fast they can grow

I have 8 acres that I love on that will get about half, and 22 acres with a little camp just south of Jasper that will get the rest. Plan on planting a lot at the camp, just not ready yet. Hopefully I can come across another deal like this when I get ready.

Sounds good. I planted some pear and peach trees in centerville and only one survived so far. I definitely dont have a green thumb.

That is a good deal and hopefully they thrive. The summer is not a very good time to be transplanting a fully leafed tree. It may be better to put them in bigger pots and hold till winter to transplant. Going to take some time digging all those holes and putting them in right with some new soil and mulch on top

Me neither, never planted trees though. I don't have any luck planting from the nut. I planted 22 chestnuts and 41 oaks last year from the nut and grew 1 oak lol. We shall see how this goes
