Were you stringing mono or ? I just "seasoned" my poles and put fresh line on. Mono does tend to have some issues but like said before take a little time to watch the spool and see which direction it comes off. Most often label side up on the floor works.
With braid I have not found that it makes any difference, as long as you keep some tension on the line as it is wound onto the reel.
I don't pay anyone to do anything I can do myself. Including bow tuning, and if I get a vise or vise substitute I will no longer need a shop at all.
