I had a similar incident with UPS last week. My office administrator attempted to ship a 25lb refrigerant cylinder via next day air. Luckily it was caught in an audit before making it onto the plane. She was clueless of the dangers that imposed and I had no idea she was shipping it that way. I received a not so friendly phone call about it and I had to submit a corrective plan of action to UPS who in turn was dealing with the FAA over this. They released it without pursuing any legal action. Could have faced a 50K fine according to our UPS account manager.
Trying to figure out exactly how trying to get a possible explosive cylinder on a plane is similar to the lady at the post office not shipping a gun? Maybe I'm reading it wrong, but seems like that is something that could cause a serious s**t storm.

DO NOT GET RID OF THAT LETTER.

Forward a copy to her supervisor for remedial training.

The knuckleheads at the location on Beltway 8 and Richmond went so far as to unpack a rifle I was attempting to ship because they "had to confirm it was unloaded". They waved it around and scared the crap out of everyone in the post office then claimed they changed the law and didn't allow shipping. That's when I pulled out the printed copy of their regulations and asked to speak with the postmaster. He came out and put on a big show, so I had him call his boss in front of me (all the while holding up the line). And whaddayaknow? His boss told him to ship the rifle. I made them pack it all back up and add extra packing and tape. What a bunch of dumbasses.

A few months after 9-11 our local UPS office told me that they would not even ship screws to a gun.

I took a Leupold scope to the UPS store, to ship to the custom shop. They asked for insurance, i said 800. What's in the box? Rifle scope. Oh, I'm sorry UPS doesn't allow anything gun-related to be shipped. Yes you do. No we can't. Ok, then call it "optics". Ok, that works. Good grief.

Just left the post office. It will be going out the door today. Also told them I'll be bringing another one here in a bit when I get it boxed up.

I will say, I had a little bit of fault. I wasn't thinking and I boxed it up in my muzzleloader box. I missed a couple of spots that said muzzleloader/mountain rifle so that raised the eyebrows. However, I told them I'll just slap some duck tape over it and it will be good to go. They still said no, it won't be shipping from this location. He handed me the rules where they highlighted the part about interstate shipment to an FFL. I said yes, that is correct, I said but read this. Showed him the part about firearm shipments inside state lines. He's remark was, "I don't have any idea, that's just what Dallas told us.

I told him that's part of the problem, you guys work here and you don't know the rules/laws. I told him I'd take partial blame because of my box, but he needed to hang on to that sheet of paper and show everyone that worked in their building.

back when I was a K-9 Officer with the state I went into a local PO and took my K-9 dog with me. A mid 30's black woman clerk had a come apart, yelling I couldn't bring a dog into a PO. I told her I legally could. She got louder...I told her to get her supervisor..RIGHT NOW. I was getting pizzed at her behavior by now. Supervisor came out, looked at me and the dog and told her to get off the line and come to his office. I never saw her in there again...don't know if she transferred, quit, or got fired. Good riddance to idiots.

I've felt with that a couple of times. I hate it when people don't know anything about their job.

I can just about guarantee she wasn't fired, their union is a strong one.

I was standing in the usually long line at the Conroe PO with a parcel post card in my hand when a clerk told me the parcel post window was open, the closed sign was at the window and no one was there to work it. I told her there was a closed sign on the counter and she rolled her eyes like I was stupid and told me it was open. I asked why they would put a closed sign up and no one was there if it was open. She rolled her eyes again and hollered to the back for someone to come work the window.
This ain't the friendly Post Office that it was back in the day. Not sure what happened but they have changed for the worse a bunch over the years.
