Anybody here ever really load shotgun shells with rock salt? Does it really work? I'd think the "rocks" would break up to powder and just give out a big salty poof.

It works. Cousin used to use it on strays. It gets the point across.

I've never loaded them but have took a hit in my back. It works.

I opened up some factory loads, took out the lead, and put rock salt in. Never fired them though.

Yes it works. The wad cushions the shot from powder explosion.
Cutting the top half of a shell off through the wad also works to shoot a large slug.
