    Getting started, need advice...

    (First post on TBH)

Just getting started on my research. My goal is to be in the field with a bow next season.

Any advice as to which bow shop to go to in the Houston area (I live on the west side).

Also any advice on article I can read up on that might help me get my feet wet would help as well. Thanks

Welcome to the fire! Lots of TBHers around Houston, I'm sure someone will chime in shortly.

Welcome to the campfire! If at first you don't get your questions answered, ask again. Lots of folks here with a ton of knowledge, but some may not see your post at first.

Oh don't worry. I am not what you would call the shy quiet type.

from a newer member...welcome...dont know which bow shop to visit but try as many bows as you can, then choose one according to what fits you best including your $$ budget..it probably wont be your last bow that you ever purchase. take what everyone advises you as to which bow to purchase as friendly but biased advice. the right bow for you is one that you feel comfortable shooting and one that you can afford

What part of H-Town are you in? This can help us point you to the nearest shop/member

There are some great shops down that part of Texas. My advice is the same for a wife as it is for a bow:
Try out as many as you can.
Spend as much time with it as you can.
                    Make sure it fits you.
Make sure it feels right, FOR YOU.
                    Then dress it up.
Take it out & see how many things are willing to die to get it from ya.

My biased advice would be buy an Elite. My experienced advice would be to shoot every bow you can get your hands on then buy the one that feels and shoots the best for you.

Welcome. There are a few shops around town to hit. I bought my bow at the Bow Zone in Spring by Carter's Country a few months ago and they were great helping a newb get set up. You can also try Viking Archery, I believe it's at 59 and the Beltway, I've only been there once to shoot. You'll hear mixed reviews about them but they were good when I was there. Most of the shops are kind of spread around town. Start looking at the websites for Bowtech, Mathews, Hoyt and search for dealers to find something close to you. Bass Pro and Gander Mountain can also get you set up, but I prefer the specialty shops.

Once you get your bow, practice as much as you can. Then when you feel you are ready, go on as many hog hunts as you can. Get some experience drawing on an animal, feel what it takes to do that without them seeing you.
