    Synthetic grass for the backyard

Seriously considering having fake grass installed in a good portion of the backyard. The area I'm considering gets OK sun but the dogs have worn out what was growing and now it's just mud.

Anyone had it done and any ballpark on cost? I'd love to hear the pros/cons from people that did it.

If you have big dogs(big turds) get ready to start scooping poop and chunking it over your fence into your neighbors yards!

        A couple of drawbacks:

        1. It holds enormous amounts of heat in the summer

        2. It is prone to hold disease pathogens like staph.

        3. To do the prep work properly is expensive

Is the a heartier grass you can plant? I would look into that first.

We installed some at work, i don't remember the exact cost but the material was $2+ per sq ft and didn't include the base materials (pea gravel/sand) and we did the labor.

It's ridiculously hot to the touch in the summer.

We charge anywhere from $8-$12 per square foot depending on the shape and size. It is terribly hot in the summer unless under shade. No bugs, no water unless you have trees then still will need water. 12 year warranty 15-20 year expectancy. Make sure you get one that drains well

I install synthetic turf in Lubbock, and most installs are on garden homes and small residentials. I encourage you to do some decomposed granite/4" rock and do some 1-3" to add some variety to to the landscape. My recommendation will hinge upon your square footage and desires.
