    How big is a ranch

Rainy day question for the green screen:

How many acres do you need for your land to be called a ranch?

    10 acres?
    50 acres?
    100?
    500+ ?
Doesn't matter - it's in the eyes of the beholder 😃

Any size, it's your place. Call it what you want.

I don't really consider anything my family has as a ranch until it's over 1k acres but even then it's hard to do much with that in some areas.

That's all? A thousand, in my family it's 10 thousand acres minimum. [emoji12]

Its a ranch if you work animals on it. Its a farm if you grow stuff on it.

What if you just hunt on it?

A ranch is considered an "extensive farm". Anything smaller than an "ranch" where livestock and or crops are raised for a profit is considered a farm. Smaller farms that people own for recreational purposes are considered hobby farms.

People in the Midwest refer to ag operations as "farms" because the vast majority are not "extensive". An example of an "extensive farm" would be the King Ranch or spike box ranch etc..

As the others have said though. If you pay the taxes call it whatever you please.

I work with a guy who kept telling me about hunting on his family's ranch. Ranch this ranch that. I assumed it was a large property. He took me hunting one weekend. 40 acres.

A little bigger than a Ranchette.

I always was entertained by this question
I figure about 300 acres. My lease is "the ranch".
We call my little place "the farm".
