Tell them what your budget is and see what they can do. Bow sales are down in the poor economy I believe (I just heard PSE had a layoff), so bow shops should be giving good deals.

Peacock Archery in Belton will not even let you shoot before you buy a bow so you cannot always go local. I purchased my bow and Sportsmens Warehouse in Round Rock. They take the time with you and let you shoot as many as you want.

As my wife's Grandmother used to say with her Irish brogue, "I've never heard of such a thing". I guess people could sell cars and shoes without letting customers try them 1st, also.

Where does he expect you to try out the bow to purchase at his shop? At another archery shop? Rubbish. I have never been in an archery shop in CA, OR, CO, ID, or TX (that covers all I can remember) that not only allowed you shoot the bows, but encouraged you to try them.

I ended up buying a Mathews FX. Now it's time to set it up with the accessories.

Thanks to all for the comments above.
