Concrete cistern or other water storage tank

Looking at getting a 4 ring concrete cistern for my water well. Was quoted $5300 delivered and set up. Not much competition here to get more competitive bids. Is this about right?
What are the advantages and disadvantages of concrete vs. other types of storage tanks?

The new poly tanks work well. Much, much less and easy to plumb. my 2 cents.

This will be for drinking water and I'll need to install a float

I'll be getting a tank setup before too long also. What's the water temp like in a black poly tank compared to a concrete cistern? Also, what's the lifespan of a poly tank?

They guarantee the poly tanks for 25 years, fiberglass even longer

                Concrete for that classic look

                Poly for everything else

How much water are you looking to store? HDPE tanks are cheap (even cheaper on craigslist). I have purchased two of them (2500 and 2000 gallons) for rain water collection in Rocksprings. New ones are running about 40¢/gallon. Used ones can be as little as 25¢. I've got $1200 in the in the two tanks I've bought including $100/tank for specialized primer and paint to avoid algae growth. You can avoid this by buying a colored tank. I have a third 60bbl (3300 gallon) fiberglass tank that came with the property. The downside to fiberglass as far as I can tell is that you should keep it painted or eventually the sun beats it up and the fiberglass will tear you up if you get near it.

Will your concrete cistern have a lid or be subject to sunlight? If no lid' algae and evaporation will eat up your supply. I have a 40x40x5 pond on the property that I haven't filled. I spoke to a TPWD biologist in my are who suggested I could lose 1"/day to evaporation as it is completely exposed to the sun.
