    Snake ID?

    Pictures are kinda bad, was late last night during the rain. This guy was on our back porch.
    What's yalls guesses? I thought copper head, but wasn't sure. Thought copper heads colors are reversed, more tan with the darker stripes?

          I had to relocate a rat snake from my back porch Monday night. Our JRT had it cornered and let me know something wasn't right.

            on copperheads, look for the "hershey kiss" color pattern.

                    As others have already stated, it's a young Texas rat snake.
                    That's probably one of the most common snakes that you'll encounter.
                    Most people think it's a copperhead when they see it, but as Pigthumper's photo shows, a copperhead is much different and easily recognizable.

                    I guess it's sort of the same thing as someone seeing a 5yo 160 class whitetail buck, but when they post the picture from their game camera, it transforms into a 3yo 120 class.
