    Drug addicts

Conversation topic this past weekend and lots of feelings were hurt. I have a cousin, ok several kin that are into heroin, coke, wacky weed etc etc.

I found out one of them ODed a couple of months ago and almost saw his maker. My aunt was awww poor mijo, blah, blah, blah, blah. No sympathy from me. I reminded her how lil cousin Jason liked to smoke weed way back and progressed to heroin. They thought it was cute back when he was a 8th grader getting stoned, not cute anymore I guess?

I guess I was a tad harsh on the "beave" Oh well...............btw this is Jason's 3rd OD so apparently he hasn't learned much.

Man I just found through Google that a past gf of mine died. I'm certain it was an od. I told her mom almost 15 yrs ago she was on drugs. I wanted nothing to do with it. I don't have much sympathy either, people make choices. Just sucks when u hear something like that.

That's a bad deal. That stuff has taken alot of people that could have done good things in their life. Sadly you can't make people quit, they have to want to quit. If they don't want to they're gonna end up in one of two places. Prison or the cemetery. I don't like it anymore than anyone else but that's the truth.

I've had this discussion a few times the past handful of months... it might sound rude or selfish but I cold never feel sorry for anyone that can't help themselves to kick the habit.

Do I feel bad for their friends and family involved? Absolutely.

I guess what I don't understand and probably won't ever understand fully is addiction. I started drinking at a fairly early age and extremely heavily in college but I guess grew out of it.

Dipped snuff and chewed for over 5 years, to the point I was at a can a day. Saw the financial impact as well as had the dentist harping at me and that was enough. Quit cold turkey and never looked back, yes it was extremely hard at times. I still enjoy a chew once or twice during duck season but have never felt the urge to need it anymore.

Long story short, I totally agree with you

I see it everyday. All I can say is that they have to want to be clean for themselves. Out of hundreds of those I have dealt with I can only think of a handful that picked the high road. I find it possible to get out from what I have seen, just unlikely. It drives car thefts, burglaries, assaults, and homicide.

Yes, you are right also about the family. But I have seen a lot of families give up on brothers, sisters, sons, daughters ect. Then the person for whatever reason will decides to be clean and they have no support other than the friends they made in the dope game (another struggling addict ). Hanging out with the same circle will likely put you back in the game . Its a rough situation. No winners.

My brother went to prison over drugs.
Been out quite sometime now. He drinks now.
My oldest, biologically my nephew, aforementioned brothers boy, is a junky as well.
I love them and pray for them but am not sympathetic to them.
Like I told him and his younger brother. Life is about the choices YOU make. Choosing not to make a choice is still making a choice!

Yep bad deal. But you cant convince some folks that one(smoking weed), leads to another(cocaine, heroin, crystal, etc)

                  No doubt about it.

A couple of weeks ago a lot of people of the GS were squalling and moaning about the death of Prince , no one wanted to believe it was from drugs , maybe from HIV or something other than junk he shot up into his veins .
Now that the toxicology test are back those same bleeding hearts are kinda quiet . It seems like he was supposed to get a pass because he was some sort of a singer or something else .
Well let me tell you once more , my heart does not break for people like Prince , Michael Jackson . Whitney Houston or any other so called Star that is supposed to be a model of the younger generation . They were all druggies and they made their own choices .
My heart does not break for any of them . Guess I'm still a cold hearted bast--- . To the people who refuse to see the truth , go bleed on somebody else .

It's a sad deal. Just the other day I was pumping gas and noticed a young, clean looking guy pan handling. I didn't take the time to look at his face till he came up to me. When he did I was shocked, it was a guy that I had to fire a year ago for drinking on the job. A year ago, he needed help. This guy flat out refused any type of help and couldn't control his drinking now he is living in the streets doing God knows what drugs.

It doesn't happened overnight. It's a slow fade.

I've got no sympathy for someone addicted to anything, be it drugs or alcohol.
I don't have much sympathy/understanding for enablers, or those that say "it's a disease", either.
It's a choice; not an illness. People make choices, good and bad, everyday, and live with the consequences of those choices.

This ought to get the thread fired up.

I only sympathize with the problems they had to make them start doing drugs. Some people lose their family, job or both and that made them try drugs then they become addicted. Still their choice but it makes it sadder if you understand or see how they got on drugs..versus just a lazy pothead escalating to hard drugs.

I'll lend a helping hand but I have a limit as to how much help I'll lend. My sympathy meter has limit too.

                              I agree.

The only person who doesnt have a choice in the matter is a baby born to a drug addict mother.
