They'll eat anything they can catch and swallow. Mice, birds, snakes, lizards and all sorts of bugs. All I ever see them eat are lizards.

We have several roadrunners around our neighborhood (Burleson). They will nest in our trees, cool to watch, and they are mean devils.

They get stupid in our chain link fenced backyard. Coyote couldn't catch one, but either our lab or aussie does, I've found three in the backyard.

That is cool, I have a few roadrunners on my place and have not seen many Rattlers (Which I am Thankful for). Do the Roadrunners Hunt Rattlers and Do they Raid Quail Nest or something?

I think the video was for entertainment purposes more than anything. Someone caught a rattlesnake and threw it out for a roadrunner to eat. They'll eat them but I don't necessarily think they hunt them specifically like people want to believe. And yes they will raid a quail nest. They eat alot more baby quail than they do rattlesnakes I'm sure.

Sounded a lot like Timothy Olyphant to me...Raylan Givens from Justified, Seth Bullock from Deadwood on HBO. Maybe its not though.

Roadrunners eat a lot of baby quail and the quail's eggs too. They are an apex predator. I have heard that some quail hunters will shoot them on sight.
I think they probably eat more bugs than anything but I have seen them with lizards and snakes several times.

My wife asked a great question, how does the venom not affect a roadrunner in digestion? Have to think that the venom is released in the gizzard with the crushing and grinding that goes on.

I am by far no expert, but I bet venom has a different effect injected into the blood stream vs being digested.

Venom is made up of proteins and enzymes mostly. It only affects you if it enters your blood stream.
