Army reverses decision on Sgt Martland

Well, common sense sometimes prevails. Sgt Martland is the decorated Green Beret who along with his captain (now retired) confronted an Afghan police commander about tying a local boy to a post and raping him for days. The guy just laughed it off so after a few punches, kicks and body slams they physically threw him off the base. Last fall it was decided to kick him out of the army for taking matters into his own hands. After a big outcry by citizens and a few politicians, the Army reversed their decision.

About time!! Too easy to second guess soldiers decisions made in the heat of the moment and often under extreme stress. Most of us couldn't imagine dealing with the average day they have, let alone keep it all together while dealing with it. Second guessing troops and police officers seems to be the trend these days - drives me nuts!

Good when a wrong is righted. Not only that, but it looks like the incident prompted a formalized change -- named for Martland -- in military policy, now allowing intervention by U.S. soldiers in abuse cases.

Maybe with a new CAC....The entire climate, of our military, will improve.

Good. It shouldn't have ever been an issue in the first place.

I am glad common sense finally prevailed in this instance but he never should have been in any hot water in the first place, that makes me very angry to say the least. I'm proud to serve with soldiers like Sergeant 1st Class Martland, good on him.
