"Liaison" is a really bad word to use on a resume.

Liaisons don't Do it, or Build it, or Sell it. They liase- or interface- or something.

Rethink your positioning- you make your clients money by focusing on what they know how to do best by your managing the government, regulatory BS that they don't want/ need/ know how to do themselves.

              Just saying!

I see what you're saying Bill, but don't worry, I don't use it on my resume. I was also careful to qualify it when I used it earlier in this thread. I agree that the word "liaison" often implies a simple exchange of words and ideas. As an environmental consultant, this isn't the case, and I only used the word to simplify a much more detailed process.

When people in my family ask what it means to do what I do, I compare it with the services of a lawyer, agent, or tax preparer.

When you go to court and the stakes are high, you're going to hire a lawyer because you don't want to risk losing everything you have trying to represent yourself. Even though you can represent yourself, it's probably not advisable. A lawyer knows the system - how it functions, the proper paperwork to file, the right jargon to use, and can research other applicable cases to help you prove yours. He works independently, or with a team of other people to help you win your case because it benefits both of you. It's the same principle as agents or tax preparers - they save you money because that's their job. You pay them to make your life easier, and in the long run, save you time, money, and a huge headache.

A lot of my clients are in a bind. They call my employer when they're having regulatory issues that they can't resolve themselves. Their site may be totally shut down because of a law they didn't know existed, and they're hemorrhaging money by not being able to work. They need a third-party to ensure that the necessary steps are taken so they can begin operations, or continue operations as usual. They need it done right, and they need it done yesterday. I do the research, make the phone calls to the right agencies, complete the necessary sampling, fill out the proper forms, and write the final reports to make this happen. When the dust settles, the regulators are satisfied that compliance has been achieved, and my clients are happy that they've saved money, and can continue business as usual.

Good luck, let me know if I can help- send a PM.

I git my undergrad in chemistry at the NJ environmental science college, and worked as an analytical chemist doing environmental sampling.

My best friend in high school git an ES degree, then law school and was the prosecutor on the NJ DEP for big hazardous waste cases. Later he was on the gov's staff for environmental policy.

                    ...... But I escaped NJ!

                        Need an Environmental Scientist?

Git is a hybrid, red-neck term used by conservatives stuck in a liberal area- like "git r done".

I like asking the Asian shoppers who push a cart in Costco like they drive their minivans, "Excuse me Ma'am, can y'all please move it?"

Ask for the job and not "when can I expect to hear back?"
