    Wood question

I need to replace the bunks on my pontoon. I can't use treated because of aluminum. What type of wood do y'all think will last longest.

You can purchase marine grade plywood at most lumber retailers. This is plywood which is not pressure treated, but the glue and wood species are specifically for use in areas with high moisture. You're looking at $60++ for 3/4" 4'x8' sheets, but it's good stuff and should fit the bill.

Sorry I guess I did not really explain it. I need the wood for the trailer. It is 2x4

so does the treated wood react to aluminum? Never head this. What about covering it with carpet?j

It has regular pine 2x4. The chemical in the treated wood is corrosive to the aluminum. I think the carpet would not help.

I was wondering if y'all thought maybe a cypress or cedar would last longer

What about getting a piece of Alum or some other type of metal and cover it with Carpet?

I have also heard of coating the treated wood but with them being the rails on a trailer I would think it would not last long.

How long has the pine lasted? How about going back with the pine, but give it a good Thompson's Water Seal application first?

Treated lumber with rubber bunk covers is what I did.

                        Or get aluminum bunks

Treated with starboard covering, you will only forget to latch the winch once. It is very slick
