? About catfish. And san Angelo.

Just moved to San angelo. Trying my hand at catfishing. I wanted to go to twin buttes, cuz I caught a bunch of sandbass there a couple weeks ago, but the gate is closed since the rain.

So I've been twice to nasworthy this week. Setting jug lines and running them with my kayak. I've done it for years at whitney and had good success. I catch fish at lake nasworthy, but most of them are small. Like 10 to 14 inches. Not exactly what I'm looking for. Both times I've been in 3 to 7 foot of water, cuz that's where I always had success before. Hardly ever caught a small one at whitney. I know they were in there, but we didn't catch them. Just like I know the big ones are in naswothy. So how do I catch em?

I guess my question is can u tell by knowing where the little ones are, where the big ones are? Take sandbass. The small males run up the creeks first. If all u catch is 10 inch males, you can be sure the 14 inch females are a week or two behind them. Move closer to the main body and u might find then staging. So should I move deeper? or shallower? Or up in the creek? I don't know catfish that well.

Also, if anybody out here wants to get together, lemme know. I don't know anyone, or anything about public hunting and fishing or here

Twin buttes in my opinion is a joke... Camped there for like 5 days and all I caught on my jugs and trotlines was gar. Tons of gar in that lake, but I know a lot of people have caught some good catfish there. We usually pull in a boat load of cats, but not there. Nasworthy is more of a party lake during this time of the year throughout the summer.

Just like other species the males move in and build the nest. Then they go cruising looking for girls to take home for a quickie. After the eggs are laid the males guard them and the young fry. This is the time of year to catch kitties in the shallows. I fish in water from one foot to 4 ft for eater size fish. Weeds, structure, cut banks, wind blown flats and points are prime areas. The females are usually gorging food sources right now pre-spawn. Find the food and you will find the fish. Once the females have laid eggs you won't catch many male fish as they don't feed much while they are guarding eggs and fry.

You may be too shallow. We caught some nice ones in 12' water yesterday with jugs set at 6' to bait.
