    Terrain Features/Aerial Maps???

Been doing a lot of online searching and looking at aerial maps for a public land trip this fall. I have a general idea of some of these things that are more common sense but I would like to have more knowledge on them. Im hoping there is a book or article that some of y'all might be able to recommend to help learn how to notice and tell the difference in the terrain/topography features I hear so much. Such as, funnel, bottleneck, pinch point, pocket, etc.... Is there anything out there that might help me here?

    Thanks

Thank you sir I was looking at that book online but it seemed to be just about topography maybe I'm wrong there. I was hoping to find something helpful using aerial maps as well!

Surely there are some youtube videos out there that would help.

For what it's worth I use Google Earth a lot. Their maps show way more detail than a simple Topo map would.

And when you turn the earth screen to 3d you can really tell the topography

You should learn to recognize terrain features using topo maps first; this will make the translation using aerial maps much easier.

When studying the terrain features you mentioned it is best to have both a topo and an aerial map. The topo will show you the terrain and the aerial will show you the cover. You can order custom maps with the topo overlaid on the aerial or you can just get a topo overlay made to place on the aerial.

The book linked above is a very good book for learning how to use terrain features to pattern animal movement.

Google Earth and other electronic maps work great as aids in learning, but in the field you will need to be able to use topo and aerial maps to pinpoint what you are looking for.

There are many books on orienteering that have great information as well, while it isn't hunting related, you will learn everything you need to navigate and recognize terrain features using both aerial and topo maps. Amazon is your friend here.
