    2016-2017 Deer Season prediction

If y'all recall last Spring was very wet causing the acorn crop to be crazy big. Well, it is forecasted this Spring and Summer to be very wet. Put two and two together and you have another rough hunting season. What do y'all think? Will we have another heavy acorn crop this year?

Oaks usually produce in cycles of 2-5 years depending on species. So if you had a strong crop last year it probably won't be as strong. Native forage shouldn't cause a rough hunting season, you just have to find the preferred food.

If it's true then get a set-up between the bedding area and the a good stand of oaks.

My spots are exclusively hardwood, so we have solid crops nearly every year coming off of one species or another. We did have a large and extended drop up here last season. It really helped the wildlife! On heavy years like this last one, I rarely watch a field. I will hunt in the woods just about every sit. Just have to climb a tree and take a chance.

It makes bowhunting very difficult after the first or second week in October, but it's a fun challenge to try to get a step ahead of them when they're not moving much. I doubt we have another bumper crop this year, so maybe I can get on them a little better. We'll see about September!

I agree, sometimes getting them on a prefered food may take a little more work or planning but you can make it happen, especially if you planning this early.
We hunt in an area with lots acorn crop but alway have good results with feeders and food plots. I think it hard for deer to resist a good fall/winter green food source like wheat or rye pasture.

I think this is going to be a great season and my last was pretty dang good.

I think wet spring is going to give em the groceries they need but I believe that they are predicitng a weakening of el nino and a move to la nina which i believe is a dry winter. They'll head to feeders and plots quicker then they did last year.

Sean, based on your avatar you had an average year. I am really looking for you to do better this season. LOL. I hope you get on another giant. Seriously though, we did not have any acorns near the Llano area so the hunting was much easier this past season.

So far so good, but it's a long ways off. A long hot summer drought can change things a lot. A huge acorn crop is ok with me. I will hunt where the acorns are and save money on deer corn.
