I bought my gf a bow for Christmas and promised that if she could get to shooting at 45lbs accurately I would take her on a hunt. So last weekend we head out to barksdale to go on a ram hunt. Day one I came full draw and went to let down and a cedar branch got between my cam and string and rolled it off so without a bow press my hunt was over. Which is a good thing cause it took every bit of our time there to get her a ram . So we try to spot and stalk but with her being from illinois and never climbing a hill in her life, she was heaving after 400 yards not to mention extremely loud and clumbsy. Which I kind of expected on her first hunt so we went with plan b. I put her in a blind and spread some alfalfa out and the wait was on which killed her. We finally had a nice Texas dall come in and started to present a shot she came to full draw and the buck fever set in after she let down the ram spooked and took off. The rest of the day went on very uneventful and her doubts started to get worst. Next day we were in the blind before sun up. Around 10am we had a few Rams come in and eat finally a black Hawaiian came broad side at ten yards and just sat there my heart was racing thinking it was all perfect and she was about to stick it but she leaned over and said hes not what I'm looking for..... Once he walked away she started saying she should have taken the shot and really started getting down on herself around 12 we headed out got a sandwich then headed to the blind around 1 it had just started to rain and we happened apon a black Hawaiian that was bedded under a cedar we managed to sneak within 20 yards when he finally got up i gave her the range and she finally managed to draw by this time he had walked out to 25-30 yards before I could tell her to not shoot she let fly and had a clean miss under him soon as I turned around the waterworks had already started. Once I got her settled down we crawled in the blind and a few hrs longer of her doubting and really getting down on herself a group of 9 rams came in and she saw one she like and 20 yards she drew and made a great lung shot he toted it 20yards and laid down she tracked him and put him down with another arrow in all the chaos another ram came out while we where recovering him and I drew the 45 on him and got my trophy in all she was supper ecstatic and really wanted me to post her story for yall and I'm extremely proud so here yall go

Thank yall wish it was more of a action packed story but I got buck fever just holding the camera and was looking over making sure she didn't see how much I was shaking for her lol funny how that works when I'm hunting I'm ice cold then when she's hunting I'm shaking like there's a 300in bull elk in front of me

First congrats to her !
Sounds like she got a lot bow experience in that hunt. Learned about the
Lengthy wait that sometimes goes with finding success.
She also leaned everyone can miss from time to time.
Probably the best experience she gained is Perseverance
IMO-perseverance is what makes a great bow hunter.
Sounds like you better start planning y'all's next hunt.
Sounds like it was a great hunt, for both of you.
Congrats on yours also.
