I'm about ready to give up on the barndominium. A few reasons and I'll explain here.
Number one is for resell. I really love the property that we are on, but we are across the street from the city limits of Aransas Pass. If/When we are annexed, I will want to turn around and sell the property and move out into the county again.
The barndo has become much more expensive than I thought it would. To get dried in I have a price of $103K, and to finish out I am at $185K. That puts me over $300K by the time I build up, septic, yada yada. I have talked to a few builders who can get me in a 2100 square foot house with 2 car garage for around $210K. Then I can buy an oversized carport and close it in for my shop/man cave.
So many things to think about. If we do go with typical construction we are going to keep these plans for later. I just feel that right now in life there are to many unknowns to build a barndo.
I'm in he same boat as you are. Just deciding what to build is a pain
That's no joke!!!! I really wanted the barndo and I like the look of them, but I also have to think about the future. I am a country boy and don't want to live in the city limits again. We are so close that if we get annexed I want to be able to sell and move. Finding someone who wants a barndo would be a tough sell. Plus they aren't any cheaper in this area I am finding. The people who would be in charge of the finish out build houses, and they are losing business if you have them finish out instead of build a complete house, so they bid it ridiculously high.

I'm right there with you. I'm a country boy and thankfully where we are going to build is away from both towns.
Finding someone to build a barndo is hard in my area so we are leaning to a traditional house. I like the look of a barndo so we might get that look. Just have to convince the wife that either way is ok
