Exact same response from my vet. The swelling will probably be gone by morning.

Give 2 mg/lb Diphenhydramine HCl (Benadryl) every 8-12 hours.
Typical tabs are 25mg, so if your dog weighs 50 lbs give her 100 mg or four tabs.
It's a good idea to check with your vet on the dosage just to make sure your dog doesn't have any other conditions that would lower the recommendation. Typical dosage for allergy-related stuff would be 1 mg/lb., but for a snake bite more is recommended.
^^^this^^^ dog will be ok and back to normal in a day or so. Mine get snake bit every year. I always keep antibiotics on hand in case of WM bite. They are worse than a Copperhead bite

A couple of years ago our Chocolate Lab got popped by a copper head right on the end of the nose, right in the pad area. He had 3 nose holes for a while. I was at the lease hunting at the time but the wife and daughters were home. Seems that he interjected himself between our youngest and the snake. They took him to the vet and she gave him two injections, one was Diphenhydramine. He was swollen and drooling all over the place for 2 days or so but nothing else. He's been right as rain ever since but he still does not like critters in his yard.

Got all the meds she needs for the next 7 days. Vet bill was light on the wallet. Glad I went

Cool deal. If you don't use all the meds save them. My beagle is 4 and been bit 3 or 4 times............Benedryl or nada...........but he is crazy anyway and probably immune to snakes!!!

Yeah next time it's just antibiotics and benedryl and a pat on the chest.

Our silver lab loves to play with copperheads. Benadryl works great. First two times we rushed to the vet after hours. Not any more. They are some tough animals.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people on here think that vets are just after the dollars. I promise you there are many more lucrative professions than veterinary medicine.

If the vet said, she will be fine take some Benadryl and that dog died, who do you think they would blame and potentially sue? Diagnostic abilities over the phone are very limited.

We have five dogs and live next to a wet lands wildlife refuge and our dogs get tagged every year. The first time our lab got bit we took her to the vet and all the vet gave her was benadryl and three raw eggs so that's what we do everytime except for once when one got tagged on the foot by a timber rattler and had to have surgery to remove all the dead tissue. I'm not saying this is what you should do its just how we deal with it.
