    Building a 3D range?

I have 31 acres and I want to build a 3D archery range.

My layout needs to be such that it would be safe to shoot with large groups on the property. It is heavily wooded with two dry creeks and a pond on the place. It would be perfect for a range.

How do you setup the shooting lanes to allow for safety?

Have your trail or trails, and have target off to the left and right. The inside of the loop needs brush, to deflect any strays. So along the perimeter is best.

Make sure that at all times . No one that will be shooting , will be shooting at some one else. No matter how far off they may be. 31 acres is big enough to have a very nice range.. Come shoot at Mesquite Archery and see how we are set up. We have about 37 acres with one creek running through it and we can setup several different shooting courses.

We have our first shoot on the 28'th. Come out and shoot with us.....

Make all you target away from the middle of the property in a giant square or circle where no one is ever on the bad end of a target. Make is scenic to walk around the course also. That is half the fun with 3ds.

I would set it up like the one post said, in a square shooting from the outside in.

#30 arces can hold a 3-D shoot-the only problem is you will be limited to a point in range layouts to keep it safe and different for groups to shoot......
I've spent 17 years in shooting 3-D and being ProActive in 3-D,and I would be more than happy too assisit you in gettin it started.Don't forget insurance! You need some type of insurance to cover yourt butt with a range! It only takes 1 accident to lose everything, with a group of shooters on a range on your property.
Do you have a airal pic of the property?I can give advice on setting up safe shooting lanes......

We have 37 acres, too, and our terrain allows us 2 main trials. We've had 100 shooters at one time with the 2 courses and never had problems. But, for those big shoots, we use a GPS to mark the targets and the lanes then decide if the shot is dangerous.
