Those who dump the most exposed corn, pull them into their zone. And once that starts to happen, the zone that has literally NO FEED and PLENTY OF BRUSH, becomes the WHITETAIL SANCTUARY, most particularly during the daylight bedding period.

Unreliable feeding, where they can't get things dialed in on a regular basis, as your neighbor runs the sendero every afternoon and or morning with a broadcast feeder, I can almost guarantee the pigs will go there.

Hunted 12,000 acre ranch in Webb County for 5 years. We left a few solid corn feeders exposed, along a fenceline with neighbors who had a bad habit of crossing the fence. And that area was chummed by the tons....the hogs went there. We hunted 14 miles away on the other side, massive hog panel setups where it was 20 yards to the protein and corn feeder legs. Bent strands down to let the whitetail in and it kept the javelina and hogs out. Then chumming hand corn, on super clear whitetail lanes into that feeding area, about 100 to 200 yards away.....in super small cleared 20 yard by 20 yard cuts in super thick south Texas brush..... It worked perfectly! I had hunts where I wouldn't see a hog for weeks. The javelinas were no problem, and the whitetail didn't mind them at all. Feral hogs.....oh hell no!

When we wanted a hog, we went to the hog side of the ranch

Yup and some of them old logging cuts, with a little side to side sickle work, makes a pretty nice little shooting lane too!

Years ago, family had a couple hundred acres in the Big Thicket area. We got into the sandy loam bottoms, cut out some small clear cut areas, tossed oats and hunted them hard from tree stands. Back when you pounded nails, one board at a time, in a nice tree that had THE LOOK!

Ask Bayouboy about the evening I put 5 hogs down, at his place near SEGNO. Ran out of arrows, otherwise I would have put down more I put down probably 200 - 300lbs of corn, running 100 yards on both sides of one of his feeders sitting on the edge of a hayfield. Swamp behind me, nasty and hoggy. They came out and I thumped hogs at long range, at both opposite sides of that feeder - which sat out in front of me. They couldn't hear my Hoyt and I focused on single pigs at the far edges. Each hit hog went running off away from the herd. They had no clue what hit them. Darn good times! James is one heck of a good man and hunting with him is GOOD TIMES!

Just my .02, but I don't think I'd want to work harder to spend extra time/money into managing hogs just to keep them out of food plots, and feeders. I remember a time when I felt otherwise and deer were just an afterthought. Now pigs are more prevalent than ever on the property I hunt, and it's sad that deer and turkey are a rare sight. While I do know you can concentrate them to a certain area, it still doesn't justify the time and extra money you have to put in with building pens, fixing fences, and money lost on food plots. Whether it's 100 hogs or 10 hogs, they'll still do the damage. Kudos to those that have a system that works for them. For me, I miss seeing deer and turkey in an area that should have good numbers.

TTHA emailed a link out yesterday to an article that had an interesting statistic. Source: Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries; Annual Deer Report.

"Hogs continue to be a primary concern. Research shows that deer and hogs do not mix and that deer can be displaced by hogs. Research has shown that deer detection rates can be up to 49% less where hogs occur. Hog populations affect deer numbers through direct competition for food resources and fawn predation. Hogs carry infectious diseases such as Leptospirosis, brucellosis, and pseudo-rabies. Wildlife veterinarians are studying the impacts of these diseases on wildlife species."

Nothing better than a bow kill from the porch good luck and I enjoy having pigs around the house. Gives me something to hunt year round....had 16 in one pic the other day about 100 yards off the back porch.

I haven't been able to hunt going on 2 years now due to the military. So yeah, you could say I would welcome that with open arms.
