    Brick Staining?

Anybody have any first hand experience staining brick on the exterior of a home? Not painting, but staining. We've found a house we really like everything about it but the tint of the brick. I'd like to hear some first hand experience on people that have used it and long term results would be great, too! Thanks.

no experience here, but I am looking to do something to my home as well. never have liked the color of the brick. we were thinking about doing a "German smear". I know its not what you asked about, but another option none the less.

If properly done, it is a permanent solution. I have done little patch staining. But have worked around professional stainers. I do not think they are cheap.

That German Smear looks interesting. The brick is very red and id like to tone it down a bit. I thought of, what I always called, a messy grout job would be perfect to tone it down but didn't know if it could be done after the fact. Doing the German Smear (lol that sounds like a nasty sex fetish type thing of some sort), do you just get grout and smear it in the grout lines non-uniformaly?

No idea on exactly how its done. My brick is very red as well and think the white would make a cool contrast

I was going to do a distressed plaster look on my brick house. It looks unique, but very labor intensive. I may start with the fireplace and see how it goes. I liked the way the white brick looked in the link you posted. And yes, German smear does sound like some new dirty trick lol
