Lets talk video cameras for filming hunts

Looking into purchasing a good camera to film all my hunts as well as all of my girlfriends now that I got her into hunting.

Sold all my GoPros and action cameras, just picked up a lightweight tripod and will be picking up a few swing arm mounts for box blinds and tree stands.

Now im starting to look for a nice camera. Needs to be HD, would prefer storage options be on an SD card or internal hard drive but open to other options.

What are yall using in the under $500 range?

For bow hunting distance you can get a lot of camera for that price range. Stick with brand names - Sony, Nikon, Cannon etc... You will be fine.

The only thing I would advice is getting hands on them and listen to how the motor zooms in and out. Its amazing the noise some camera's can make. I would also find one with less options then more. Some cameras are getting overly complicated.

High Pixel HD Nikon has camera's that double as video camera's that I have been impressed with.

Sony Handycam is what I use and it has done all I need it to.

Just make sure the lens cover is manual.

Finding one with a LANC is critical for archery hunting and self filming. Very few offer this under $500.

However sony does offer this. I bought one last year and used it and it worked great for just a couple hundred bucks. Not all are comparable with this feature so make sure you get one that does. Mine is the cx440 handycam

The LANC attachment is the RM-VPR1

I just upgraded to the canon g30 and looking forward to filming this season

              Lanc

High end cameras give you plenty of LANC options but they are hard to find that will even take an LANC in the $250-$1,000 range. After extensive research sony was the best option in that price range.

In addition to this I would tell you that a good fluid head is a must have as well. Manfrotto makes a great one. Well worth the $

I'd recommend this one. Affordable and high quality.

Thanks for all the advise so far! Gonna look at them at work right now.

Doing some research on LANC too. Just doing this for memories and to help see what I might need improvement on, so the lower end of te 1k price range is better lol not looking to get into show production level quality

Pretty sure I bought that sony cam for $250 and LANC for $60ish and the fluid head for $100.

Muddy outdoors makes a great tree arm

I love having a remote control. It makes for minimal movement on my end when turning on the camera in close proximity to animals.
