Doing an NASP BAI training on my campus with 4 teachers (2 coaches and 2 classroom) on April 16.

The coaches start archery curriculum with 4th and 5th grade after that.

Archery club starts in the fall with the new 5th graders and opens up to the new class of 4th graders as soon as they go through the curriculum in PE in the fall.

Looking for grant $ now for another set of bows, unless I can get it in the budget for the next school year with my principal.

Either way....I'm super stoked to be getting this started with our kids. Lots of good press for them since we are the only school in the district doing it this next year.

      Are you in New Braunfels?
If so, you may want to touch base with Kelly Shand at Wimberley Jr. High. She taught Archery through the Science Program. (Loved her teaching!) This was about 10 years ago when my youngest was in the 6th Grade. She was able to get grants for her program. She may be a good resource for that.

I live in NB and teach in Seguin.
I actually used to teach in Wimberley back in 2004. I was the band director at the JHS and did the drum line at the HS

I will get in touch with Kelly asap.

Thank you for the heads up!

                God, I love this place!
                Heart is soaring.

I teach at one of the lowest and poorest elementary schools in Seguin and my dream is for this program to help these kids through archery.

                Perseverance, discipline, focus, patience...
Stuff they don't get at home but can learn through archery and apply to not only academics, but their personal lives...To focus on the process rather than the end result.

Check into Easton Grants, NRA will also donate to archery programs.

Kevin how much money do you need? I bet we can raise some funds.

I have a set of 10 bows, 5 targets, and 2 nets that the district owns. They are all in my classroom now since I'm the only guy who has an active BAI (I'm also a certified NASP trainer...best of both worlds)

Ideally for out PE classes, I'd like to have another set of 10 bows plus some lefties and some mini's (got some little kids), and 5 more targets. The run 2 classes at a time in PE, so there are 40+ kids at a time in the gym. With 20 archers on the line, they can have the other 20 doing string now stuff and strength building in rotations. Then switch out after 20 minutes of shooting....once they get to that point.

The long term plan looks like this:
2016-2017 school year....archery at my school. Gather data and see how it impacts the kids (which is will big time in a positive way).
Summer 2017- train staff at the other 6 elementary schools an implement NASP across the elementary campuses.
Summer 2018- train middle school staff and implement in both middle schools
Summer 2019-train hs coaches and implement in the hs.
Fall 2020....my elem archery kids start as freshmen with 4 years of archery under their belts and we start working to compete with Arlington and some of those bigger archery programs.

Somewhere in there, I get my superintendent to go to Arlington and look at their facilities and buy in to NASP as an intervention for these kids (seguin) who have nothing going for them, but experience success through archery.

                      That's the plan anyway....

I need to talk to my principal about sources of funding. I have to be careful with donations since I'm not sure how the business office handles that. But...where there's a will, there's a way.

                        It's about to get real...

The nice thing is that pricing on the archery equipment for schools through NASP is considerably lower than MSRP.

Well, I didn't own any kind of equipments so can't say much on equipments. But Kevin, do let us know how much money do you need, because I also think pricing for school in equipments is indeed the great idea.

                            Will do...
And I see what you did there..

A bit more proof reading on my part next time is definitely in order. I shall edit and then I'm off to bed.
