I don't have enough bailing wire to take care of it then.

Randy my trans. guy said it's most likely the solenoid. Make sure to check the harness as well. That is his best guess with out doing diagnostics on it.

Thanks Glenn. I'm also going to clean all the connecters that plug into the tranny. This thing been leakin oil for a while and might have just gunked up a connecter. I'm on a quest now even if I don't fix it. I want to know what it is.

My Ford Ranger started throwing a P0761 code. This is for the 3rd gear solenoid. The thing is, it's shifting just fine. All the research I've done say's the O.D. light should be blinking, but it's not. I'm beginning to think the ECM is having a problem. My code reader will indicate all the I/M monitors are ready, but when I clear the trans code, it also resets everything else. I can drive it to reset all the I/M monitors, but the code comes back. Clear codes and I/M monitors go out of whack again. What in the crap can cause this?

Are you sure it not just the Muffler Bearing?

Just talked to my son. He's on the highway heading for our house. He said tach is at 3400rpm at 70mph. It's not going into 4th gear. How hard is it to change out a shift solenoid?

I've never done one on a Ranger,so I would check youtube.

I'm also having CJ check the OD fuse to see if it is blown. There might be a short in the wiring somewhere.

When you drop the pan the solenoids are right there. They are easy to change.

Thanks brutha. I've already made up my mind to change out the one that's acting up. Might as well while the pans off. Would be stupid not to.

Well, I changed the solenoid, filter and fluid. Now it went from a P0761 to a P0760 code. Internal wiring harness looked OK. I'm about ready to burn the sucker to the ground! Now what?

The O.D. light is not blinking anymore. It just doesn't seem to be going into O.D.. I need this thing inspected to get the tags. This is irritating me because it has nothing to do with safety or emissions. But it won't pass.
