Well I have an astigmatism in both eyes. Vision is still 20/20 but blurry. I have been trying with both glasses and contacts so I need to ask. If you wear glasses what kind and how do you not look in between the lenses. I have to move glasses to opposite side of nose to see through the lense. And on contacts what do you wear and for how long. I can wear the ones I have for 1 day and the next I feel like they are all tore up and feel scratchy. (Suppose to last a month of daily wearing and soaking over night) Also any tips on care for them and putting in easier? Lol! Sorry for the long post and thank you in advance!

Glasses/contacts tips and tricks needed

I am no expert for sure but I would try another optometrist or even an opthamologist. I also have astigmatism and was told I could not wear contacts. I found a Doc who fit me with contacts and the only thing I liked was taking them out. I wore them at work but wore glasses on my days off. I got transferred to another part of the state and decided to try another doc for contacts. He gave me another kind and I never looked back. I believe mine would last me well over a month. Over the years, I finally decided to go with lasik. That did the trick for me but I had to start wearing readers for close in vision. Of course the readers naturally come with age anyway.

As others have mentioned I would find a different eye doc. I've been wearing glasses for 40+ years (astigmatism) and have never had blurred vision other than "new" glasses that had a problem. I have successfully worn contacts in the past but not since I started needing reading correction (bifocals/progressives).
I have progressive lenses now and they do cause problems at times when I look through the wrong part of the lens. (shooting a shotgun, playing catch, reclined on the couch watching TV)
I've got an extra set that does not have the reading correction I use for "active" stuff.

Once complete, I can look through the corner of the lens this way, I also had to move my nose anchor point from the front (tip) of the nose to the side (tip of the ala). Because, even though I had my frames as close as possible, I was still looking at the nose pad hanger instead of through the lens. It just takes a little adjustment to get it right.
I have also adopted this form when shooting with my contacts in; this way I don't need to move anchors every time I switch corrective lenses.
I suffer from near sightedness and have worn glasses since I was twelve. I now also suffer from astigmatism. For most of my life I have worn contacts but with the onset of the astigmatism I have started wearing glasses almost exclusively. It is easier to just remove the glasses for reading, which is what I do now.
For contacts I wear the Accuview Oasys. They are daily wear but I can leave them in for 4-6 weeks with no problem, just a few drops of saline in the morning and I'm ready to go. I also like that they are 100% UV blocking, very important to eye health.
When putting them in I use the opposite hand index finger (left index finger for right eye) and approach the eye close to the nose. I use the middle finger to pull the bottom of the eye down as I approach the eye with the lens. Keep the lens wet and it will adhere to the eye easily.
Also, practice putting in the lenses without using a mirror. I can't tell you how difficult it is to put in a contact in the field without a mirror if you have never done it. Don't let he field be you practice range, practice at home.

I have worn contacts since I was about 12, going on 32 now. I am blind without them actually (not literally.....) at a -7.75 and -8.25. I have astigmatism as well. I wear a toric lense for the astigmatism and they work great. You will get used to it I promise, it will become second nature to put in and take out no problem. I never sleep in mine, that bugs the crap out of me and I'm annoyed with them the whole next day. I feel it is important to give your eyes a break each night, but I know a lot of people wear them round the clock so whatever works for you. As suggested, I always drop a couple of drops of solution into the contact when on my pointer finger before I put into my eye and its sticks easy no problem. I take pointer and middle finger of left hand and hold top and bottom of eyelid apart then put in with pointer of right hand. I do this for both eyes, I'm right handed and just always the way I have done it. I never use a mirror, I've been doing it long enough, but to be honest I don't believe I ever used a mirror. You don't want to have to rely on one. What if your contact falls out somewhere and you have no mirror or solution??? I put it in my mouth, get it wet, (preferably without a dip in..... lol that stings a bit) and put it back in. You gotta do what you gotta do. And at the end of the day of just roll my top eyelid with my finger and my contact falls right out into my other hand. Simple and easy. Long read, sorry. Maybe some of that will help. Your eyes will get used to wearing them, it may just take a bit of time.

I have worn glasses, contacts for a very long time. Contacts I just could not get used to. If you are looking over your lens when shooting, I would think your glasses need the nose piece squeezed closer together (raise the lens) or the angle of your head is to steep. Raise your peep sight slightly. If it's a shot gun then you may need a different fit. I had to sell my red label do to similar thing. But it came with age I guess, as I had shot it for years with glasses and didn't have a problem. But still it was because it didn't fit and was having a hard time seeing the correct sight picture. If your new to glasses it does take some (quit a bit of ) time to get used to them. I wear Oakley evades, but the brand should not matter. It's the fit.Last edited by critter69; 04-05-2016, 11:15 AM.

I have bad astigmatism and have used these forever: http://www.1800contacts.com/lens/soflens-toric
Went to a new doc because I moved and he switched me. I think he had stock in whatever he switched me too. They were horrible like you said. I could only where for a day or so. Now I drive about an hour to go back to the other doc.

FYI, I have cleared it with my ophthalmologist (I tell him I leave then in this long) and I've never had an eye infection due to using them this way.
So yea, I am concerned with eye health.
Thanks for your concern though.

Guys...please don't wear contacts over night. You dont need to see anything while you are sleeping and that can cause serious problems.. Let dem eyes breathe!! Lol
I used to use oasys, they were supposed to be worn for 2-3 weeks but I could stretch then out to 4-6 with nightly soakings. I switched to daily lenses and am really glad I did, they are so much more comfortable. I wear glasses during the week at work so I pretty much only wear contacts on the weekends.
I second what was said about practicing putting contacts on without a mirror, eventually you get used to it and can just pop them with no problem. They do take some getting used to thougLast edited by Jspradley; 04-05-2016, 09:36 PM.
