I believe it comes from 'the old days' when trappers would kill lots of coyotes. And instead of talking to the landowner everyday, they would put the coyotes on the fence post to show their work is being done.
It is a know fact that coyotes patrol the fence lines for dead friends. They stay away from said property and go tell their friends what has happened...
I think to ward others off. Not sure if it works. I wouldn't think so. I would think it would just be feeding the others. I also see dead crows hanging off branches in pecan orchards. Once again, I think to ward other crows off.
I know just giving you some crap. Funny how all the other threads started here in the last about this say the exact same thing. Yotes. Catfish. Etc. lol
