    Polaris Ranger problem

I have an '09 Ranger 700. Twice in the past couple weeks it has started running rough, wouldn't accelerate, and generally acted like either water or trash in the fuel. Anybody else have this problem ?

The first time this happened, I was 2.5 miles from the truck, down in the woods, and it was pretty wet. Managed to nurse it back to the truck and just as I got back, it evened out and ran fine. Happened again Saturday, but only lasted about a half mile before it ran fine again. Sunday morning, I put 4/5 miles on it, no problem. It's a head scratcher !

I want to try some home remedies before taking it to the dealer, because they are slow and expensive.

    Any ideas ?

First thing I'd try is a can of Heat and a can of Seafoam. Heat will dry out water and Seafoam will clean up the mess it might have left.

Thanks, I already use Stabil in my gas and since the problem have changed to ethanol free premium. I use to use Heet when I was in N Dakota since if you have any water in your gas at 20* below it's obviously a big problem. Good stuff !

Don't listen to poisonivie, he doesn't have a clue! Check your air intake boots. A buddy of mine just had his blow off and gave the same problem

My buddy had a similar situation with his this past deer season. He changed the spark plug and hasn't had any issues since.

Was it intermittent like mine ? Or did it run rough all the time ?

I believe in Heat and Seafoam. Next time I go to the ranch I will treat my gator just for maintenance purpose.

It was rough on the low end and got better on top. But still nowhere near smooth. I had a bad plug and wire on mine 2 years ago that you may have the same thing

Fuel pump sounds like its going out and here is a few other items to check: fuel filter replacement, new spark plugs, belt slipping, air filter clogged, check fuses.

Possible tbap wiring harness issue. What codes is it showing? The easiest thing will probably be to take it to someone who can hook up a computer to it with all the electronics they have it going to be hard to find possibly. I just sold my 09 700 they're good bikes but sometimes due suffer with electrical issues occasionally.

I don't think this is fuel system related. Sounds like water getting into an electrical connection. Especially since you mention it was wet when the initial problem occurred. When it dried out. The problem went away.

First place I'd look at it the boot over the spark plugs. Make sure one of those isn't unseated or worn out. There could even be an area of exposed wire that is causing it.

If all is good there I'd be looking at the TPS, TBAP, or CPS. All of those are known to cause what you describe. Pack those connections with dielectric grease and check for exposed wires. It doesn't take much water on an exposed wire or in a connection and you get exactly what you're describing.

Could be fuel pump. I know my 2011 ate them on a regular basis....
