Where I hunt now and grew up hunting in the post oak region you would have rode around all weekend showing off that deer.
AR and changing of attitudes have gone a long way towards better herds.
I have been fortunate to kill a 133, 132 and 135 in the past 5 years, one of those deer would have been a deer of a lifetime a little over 10 years ago.
So the racks are bigger, but are the herds healthier? Not arguing or trying to start anything, I'm just curious. It would seem the AR would let a lot of animals slip through that would normally get taken. Just an honest question, I have never really hunted for trophy deer, just meat so I don't keep up with it. Plus I'm still kind of a young buck.

Gotta be they're able to grow and mature before breeding. I would imagine the stress of filling those spots was rough on the young deer who were still growing their bodies. Now with more mature deer theyre pushed out of the way before it gets intense
