1 D 1 open space land tax question

I bought 50 acres near Laredo. I know that I have to apply for the 1d1 open space land exemption for tax purposes to keep it under the ag exemption. It was ag exempt before I bought it and am wanting to know if I have to apply to get it for the remainder of 2016 or do I just go ahead and wait and apply for the exemption for 2017. The deadline to file is April 30. Any advice would be appreciated

I purchased some property in Feb. of 2015 I made some calls after I bought it to make sure I didn't have to fill anything out for Ag exemption. they said I would be grandfathered in until time to renew in 2016. they sent the forms in January to fill out and it was a done deal. don't want to let it slip by though, I think it takes 5 years to get it back into AG exempt. its not as easy as it used to be.

Can I just put the year and fill in native pastureland for the description of the property use on step 4 of the application or do I have to go further into description? Step 4 is use of property description and you have to go back 5-7 years.

man that form is not very user friendly. I actually brought mine down to the Tax office and got the lady to walk me through it. and im glad I did, she had me scratching through stuff an writing other stuff in that wasn't on the form, so I don't know how they expect anyone to know what to put on it without asking. pretty cumbersome process!

call the webb county appraisal district

typically January 1st they will mail you a 1-d-1 form that is due by april. since it was ag exempt previously, you will be able to renew it unless you want to take it out of ag for other purposes
