Small Engine/Generator Help

I have a 6800 watt Rigit generator with a little over 500 hours. It has ran flawless for 2 years, however today it decided to not start for the very first time. I'm no mechanic, but know how to check common things until I get into electronics. After trouble shooting, my diagnosis came down to lack of spark. When checking for spark I got nothing, but when I disconnected the wire that goes from the big bundle of wires near the starter to the ignition module and checked again I got spark. So what I'm gathering is that I have some sort of electrical issue. That's as far as I can get...any ideas on what to check next or how to check it?

Dumb question but did you check the oil level? I loose spark on mine if it's low.

sounds like you may have a broken or loose wire since after you removed them and reattached them, and now you have spark.

I did not get spark after removing and reattaching the wire, I got spark after disconnecting this wire...

see if it will fire up with that wire disconnected...if so, see if it will shut down with the kill switch

Yes it fires right up with this wire disconnected, but will not shut off with either of the 2 on/off switches...had to cut the gas off to kill it.

maybe one of the shut of switches are bad. Plug this wire in, disconnect 1 switch...if it starts, then that may be it.

I'm guessing that wire goes to your kill switch, and somehow your kill switch is shorted out.

Do you have a low oil switch. I had the same problem with my generator, no spark, pulled the wires apart and it started, plugged back in nothing. Pulled the switch out and cleaned with brake cleaner, reinstalled and fired up 2nd pull.

that switch is usually the issue -in the past,we disconnected it and checked oil diligently

That's what I'm going to do for right now. I already check frequently and change it every 20 hours.
