Let me start by saying that a part of this is my fault. I always, ALWAYS double-click my truck's key fob to make sure my horn honks to let me know the doors are locked. Last night, I didn't. My wife asked me to stop because when I do our dog goes nuts. Lesson learned. I can deal with the dog going nuts.
I live in the M streets neighborhood of Dallas - I park my truck in front of my house every day and haven't had an issue in the 3 months we've been there. Last night, though, I forgot to lock my truck. I started loading up to go to work this morning and stuff was thrown everywhere in my front seat.
The punch line is, the hurt is on me but the joke is on the criminal. There were (apparently) two things taken out of the truck - my little 'get off me gun,' a colt .25 and a dash mounted GPS. Combined total cash value - about $250 bucks? Tops? Problem is - both of them belonged to my old man and now I'm never going to get them back. More than the paranoia I'm going to undoubtedly deal with over the next few days, the fact that they took that stuff infuriates me.
The odd/funny part is, they left a $500 piece of easily portable office equipment, my first responder bag (another $300), and $500 worth of sunglasses. And my title. And mace. And my TBH hat.
Agh. Never happened to me before and because there was a firearm stolen I have to leave work later in the morning and go make a police report. So ******.
