    More Thieves

Let me start by saying that a part of this is my fault. I always, ALWAYS double-click my truck's key fob to make sure my horn honks to let me know the doors are locked. Last night, I didn't. My wife asked me to stop because when I do our dog goes nuts. Lesson learned. I can deal with the dog going nuts.

I live in the M streets neighborhood of Dallas - I park my truck in front of my house every day and haven't had an issue in the 3 months we've been there. Last night, though, I forgot to lock my truck. I started loading up to go to work this morning and stuff was thrown everywhere in my front seat.

The punch line is, the hurt is on me but the joke is on the criminal. There were (apparently) two things taken out of the truck - my little 'get off me gun,' a colt .25 and a dash mounted GPS. Combined total cash value - about $250 bucks? Tops? Problem is - both of them belonged to my old man and now I'm never going to get them back. More than the paranoia I'm going to undoubtedly deal with over the next few days, the fact that they took that stuff infuriates me.

The odd/funny part is, they left a $500 piece of easily portable office equipment, my first responder bag (another $300), and $500 worth of sunglasses. And my title. And mace. And my TBH hat.

Agh. Never happened to me before and because there was a firearm stolen I have to leave work later in the morning and go make a police report. So ******.

That sucks. I don't live in a neighborhood, but my brother in law use to live in Ft. Worth and he said if he ever left his truck unlocked all the change would be gone. He assumed it was bums.

That sucks. Sounds like someone walking down the streets pulling on car doors until one opens. If I was a betting man I'd bet they've tested the door before but this was the first time it opened.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Stupid mistake on my part cost me an heirloom - which totally sucks. But, lesson learned. I'm having a hard time 'getting over it' even though I know I should.

I live in the medical center of San Antonio and its almost guaranteed your vehicle will get tossed if you do not lock your doors- its pathetic. Sorry to hear it happened to you.

I often come home late and the honking when locking the doors was also disturbing the neighbors etc. I forgot exactly what I did but I disabled it. Now the parking lights blink only.

Also, I put up a good old game camera in the car port. They come through almost like clockwork checking doors between 2am and 4am.

M streets get a lot of foot traffic, sometimes low lighting too. Great place to live, if you can park in back, which I know is not a possibility sometimes, that would help. esp if you don't own the home.

I hate thieves also. Not worth the air they breath.

They didn't take the other stuff because it's harder to get cash for. They don't want your stuff they want cash. Gps and a pistol are accepted by any pawn shop, or sold face to face.

That's what I'm thinking, too. Met with the police. I may take a field trip to the pawn shop near my house soon to see if my GPS got offloaded.
