I dump mine out of the sack in the biggest cooler I have and put ice on me, but I don't ever try to keep them that long

Yes, put them in a cooler with the lid cracked open and propped up with drain open so they don't sit in the water.

Also cover with burlap. I had to keep some alive for 4 days once. Long story. Lost about 25%

That's the main thing. You will have more dead. I leave me be in the sack, put in a big ice chest, and cover with ice. Leave the drain open. You will lose some, but if they're cold, it doesn't really matter.

Put them in a horse trough with a dead fish to eat on.

Don't put them in your fish tank, they crawl out and up the tubes and pizz off the lady friend. Don't ask me how I know.

As stated, keep chilled with high humidity. An ice chest works fine with ice placed on top of sack. As ice melts, the water dripping down will keep gills moist (nessisary for respiration). No need to leave lid cracked but do leave plug open or loose and end propped up slightly so water drains out rather than submerge crawfish on bottom. The survival rate at this point will largely be dictated by how well they were handled during and after harvest and how long they have been out of their habitat by the time you receive them. Under the best of conditions, it's hard to get much more than 5 or 6 days without significant mortality.

Keep the water cool, not cold. In the shade. Put some chicken wire over the top so they don't get out or something get in. Don't know about pig leg. And I just reread your post. Thought you were trying to keep them longer. McLain is on the money
