Kubota zero turns are nice but I think most the commercial brands will work just fine. The biggest thing I could recommend is make sure you get a WELDED deck and not a stamped one!

My step dad mows a lot of yards on the side and hes had extremely good luck with scags. I bought a gravely last year anf so far its a great mower as well. But if I had to choose id go scag for personal preference.

This^^^^^ I have this one w/ 54" deck. The Raptor SD is an upper end residential / light commercial grade mower. The Hustler Fastrack series is their full commercial end mower. When I was doing all of my research last year, trying to get bang for my buck, I had it narrowed down to two mowers. The Bad Boy, and the Hustler Raptor SD. The final decision was made on the Hustler for several reasons. 1) I have a Hustler dealer about 10-12 mins from my house. 2) they offered 0% financing. 3) Kawasaki engine. The prices, feature, and quality appeared to be very similar.
I couldn't be happier w/ my Hustler Raptor. I did have two upgrades added to mine Wichita I'm also pleased with. 1) flex forks on front for dramatic ride improvement. And a steele shroud around the engine to protect small engine components from being ripped off.
My grand total was $4,700 which is pretty pricey for a mower IMO. But there are much more high dollar full blown commercial machines out there. I just decided I was sick and tired of always having to repair, replace, and work in my cheaper mowers. I rarely had engine issues, but all of the components of the cheaper mowers were crappy. They wear out something all the time, decks never stay level, etc. Etc. I'm so glad I finally bit the bullet and bought a really nice mower. The piece of mind is great, it cuts fast and beautiful, and I'll have it for years to come. If it were me and I had cash set aside for a cheaper mower, I'd use it for a down payment on my exact mower. I have 1 acre and can cut it in about 40 mins. I don't know what you budget is, but if I could do it over again I would in a heartbeat.
Good luck with your decision, Sir.

I would look at bobcat as well. I'm on 1.5 acres and started with a craftsman zero turn bc of cost. I ended up going with something that will hold up long term. Paid 3 times as much but it was worth it to me. Depends on your yard as well. My back yard in the back half is a little rough.

Yeah, thought about, laughed about and forgot about it. :-D. I'd be looking at close to 100 bucks per mow. At that rate, it wouldn't take long to pay off a decent mower.

A guy I know swears by toro. Not the cheap ones that you get at box stores, but the toros that you get from a lawn mower dealership. He is the superintendent of a company the mowes at the chemical plant I work at. He is also replacing the older scags with the toros when he gets new mowers.

Am very happy with my husq mz5225. Has commercial parts and welded deck with a price at around 5k mark. This is not your lowes husq and is built to last.

just an FYI - if you have any slightly severe slops the zero is not good - I had a lake house and bought one - on flat ground they are the ticket but if you have slope they do not perform well

Virtually zero slope to my land except the bar ditch at the front which isn't much anyway, and a shallow but wide drainage in the back yard, which I can't mow right now anyway because it's holding water, but according to the neighbors, is only wet during extremely wet years. Even that drainage is very shallow and the slope is very gradual. The yards are fairly smooth, with the exception of a small area in the front that got some shallow ruts from backing trucks up to the front door when they moved out and we moved in.

I have a bobcat as well. Great mower & well built. When I was in the market for one I heard over and over whichever mower you buy get the Kawasaki motor & a welded deck. I've used scags as well are they are awesome but were 30% higher in cost at that time. Good luck!

If we end up with the house we are trying to buy I will need a new mower.

I am looking at the bad boy at the moment.
