I'm at a cross roads and would like to hear from you guys.
I have been working construction for the past 3-4 years. Before this, my wife and I were both school teachers. She quit to stay home with the girls while they were young. Well, one of them is due to begin kindergarten next school year and the other is right behind her.
I have recently been admitted to a doctoral degree program at Tarleton. It's looking like I'll need to focus my time and energy toward the degree program if I'm ever going to be successful in it. This means that I will not be able to travel out of town for work as I have been doing the past few years.
Do you guys think it is wise for me to try to talk my wife into returning to work? I'm going to seek a teaching position at the university, and I believe that the pay will be around $30,000 annually before I earn my terminal degree. Another option is for me to return to public school teaching, an option that could yield higher wages than the university position (doctoral research assistant).
What would you guys do?
