    Where to buy a rifle?

I am looking to purchase a gun for a friend and was looking for the best price in the Fort Worth area. I am not much of a gun man, put all my time into bows. I am looking at getting either a Marlin XL7 or a Rem. 700 SPS topped w/ a Burris or Tasco 2.5-7. I am open to other sugg., these are the two that have been suggested. Thanks!!!--Allen-- I work in the Benbrook area but drive to Roanoke along 820.

I'd pass on the Marlin and get the SPS or a Weatherby Vanguard. Academy has the Vanguards for $399 + tax.

X2 on the Weatherby Vanguard. Great gun for the money. I have a 7mm. Shoots great.

For the price, the Vanguards are top notch. They are the same action as the Howa and the S&W rifles, but priced a little less than the other two. A little more gets you a Remington in your fave caliber, + a $40 mail in rebate.

You'll most likely need to do a trigger guard on the Vanguard. They are pretty rough. Once that's done, it's a great rifle. I have a 22-250 and it's a shooter for sure.

It wouldn't hurt to look at a Savage with the Accutrigger either.

Def. go with the Burris scope over the Tasco. A Burris Fullfield is great low priced glass.

I bought a Howa 1500 in .270 Win for my wife after we got married. The prices are usually within 5% for either gun. The only difference I can see is that the Vanguard has a fluted bolt and the Howa has a 3 position safety. I also think the Howa triggers are little better from the factory. Both are great guns.

I lived in Fort Worth a few years ago the best gun store i could find up there was Cheaper Than Dirt. They are not real "cheap" but there prices are fair and they have a good selection in stock.
