Phil Dawson getting it done... interesting a 40 year old can still get it done in the NFL.

Dawson attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a four-year letterman in football. After redshirting his freshman year, he scored 80 points his first year of playing. He also tied a school record with 54 consecutive extra points. The following season he made honorary All-America honors while leading the Longhorns in scoring. He made first-team All-America his junior and senior years, while simultaneously making All-Big 12. He earned a B.A. in political science. Dawson is famous for his 1995 game-winning field goal against University of Virginia, booting a 50-yarder against a 30-MPH wind to give Texas a dramatic 17-16 victory as time expired.
Wife and I were at that game. Remember that kick so clearly still today.

He hit a few from 50. One was to beat arch rival Plano at Wildcat-Ram Stadium.Last edited by .243 WSSM; 03-17-2016, 06:08 AM.

I remember two things about Phil Dawson:
1) his 53 yd. kick into the wind to beat Virginia, circa 1989.
2) His refusal to pose with other collegiate All-Americans for Playboy due to religious reasons. (Personally, I thought it was a mistake, but I admired the heck out of his taking that position.)

Go Wildcats, Lake Highlands Alum here as well. I was in elementary school when Dawson was playing in high school. My best friends Dad was the linebacker coach, Coach Barry for any LH guys. My buddy and I were Water boys for most of elementary school. All those trips to Texas Stadium were awesome. They had some incredible players in those days. Dawson is by far the most successful, but a couple of quarterbacks like Marcus Stiggers and Sean Stilley were a few of the other standouts I remember. Those were fun days with some serious tradition and a program that knew how to win. Nothing like Friday Night Lights.
