    Broken HellRazor ?

Has anyone ever broken one of the NAP hellrazors?
Shot a big hog this evening and he spun toward me at the shot,no pass through. The arrow went in the shoulder just behind the ball joint and exited between his back legs. The arrow didn't hit the ground, it washanging by the fletching outside the shoulder. I found the broken arrow about 200 yards down the trail. I would never have found this hog wiyhout a dog. I had my closest call ever tracking any hog. He managed to knock me down before I could get the pistol out. I will post some photos of him tomorrow. The canyon he died in is one I can't get him out of by my self,he will just have to rot there.

Here are some photos of the broadhead. I am too tired to try and get photos of the hog tonight. Oh, the hog was castrated so there wasn't any shield to stop the penetration.

I don't know what I could have hit that might break a blade off.

That's one broadhead I would have never thought would do that. Those are laser welded, not forged like Montecs. That's the knock on the Motecs, since they are forged they can be brittle. The HellRazor's are not supposed to be brittle, but clearly that one was.

I'd send it back to them with a description of what happened. I bet they'll replace it for you.

Interesting. Send it back to them. I'm sure they would appreciated checking out this particular head and checking it out.

It's hard to tell from the pics, but it looks like the failure did occur at the welds. It is possible that it could be a welding quality issue. Those things are Austinitic stainless and welding can be tricky. They probably would like to get it back for evaluation.

Shame on not being able to get the hog out... a castrated one of that size sure would have been good eatin'. Was that the canyon up behind the main ranch house? I remember you got one out of there for my son many years ago, and Lord, I don't know how you did it! Glad you're ok.

If he was dragging the arrow for 200 yards, by the fletching, the back side of that blade could have hit a lot of stuff.

I would consider that breakage from abuse, and not a broadhead quality issue.

I think Kevin is right but I would send it back to them. Most of these manufacturers really appreciate getting broken ones back so they can do a post mortem on it and find the failure mechanism. My experience is they send you a new one for your trouble and appreciation of giving them some feedback.

Here are the photos of the hog and just a small part of the canyon as to why I didn't try and get him out. Kevin,I don't think there could have been enough abuse to break the broadhead by dragging it. He was hard quartering to me so it would have pulled out fairly easy.
