    Depressed....

So on 1/12 I had a surgery on my upper and lower jaws to correct basically a severe cross bite which was causing TMJ pain.

well, that surgery came and went, and I started having SEVERE pain in my left jaw joint, and my jaw was locked... couldn't open past 1/4 inch a month post op. doc found an issue in the joint and I had surgery #2 in late February.

well, yesterday evening I was eating ( I just began eating solid foods) and I got some food caught between my cheek and gums on my lower right side. had to use my finger to get it out and I felt something.... it was metal.

apparently one of the metal plates they put in my lower jaw has come through the gums, and is showing. my wife can literally SEE it. almost 1/2 inch worth. I was in NO pain, etc. I immediately call the on call nurse number, and they had the on call oral surgeon call. he calmed me down a bit, but then MY surgeon called last night.... Surgery #3 scheduled for April 1... and this isn't an april fools prank. they are hoping to move it up but that's the earliest opening at this point.

they're going to take the titanium plate out of that one side... if the bone has grown enough they will not have to put another back in.... but they will have to open be back up and restitch my gums on that side, so I'm back to a f'in liquid diet after that.

I'm so sick of this... I'm beginning to think everything will never be the same again and I should have just learned to deal with the pain. what sucks the most is that I got really depressed after the first surgery.... like I've never been depressed in my life, but the inability to eat, and constant weakness really took a toll on me. they even put me on antidepressants.... and just when I start feeling better, I have to do it again.

just getting it off my chest. literally just got the call from the surgeon.

Sorry to hear that. I cant imagine what that must be like. I have a pretty severe cross bite myself and have considered surgery, but this is making me lean away from that. Will say a prayer for you. Hang in there!

I can sure sympathize with you. Surgeries are not to be taken lightly. I had depression after a neck surgery a few years ago. Then right after that they told me I had some bad health issues based on a blood test taken shortly after the surgery. Turns out the test that soon after surgery is invalid, but they had me convinced that I had one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.
I stay away from doctors nowadays.

Hey Hunter Man - sorry you're going through this.

One thing I know for sure (I just turned 50), sometimes things seem very dark. But they ALWAYS get better.

Soon enough this will be behind you. So hang on, brother. You'll get through it.

thanks for sharing your story and bringing light on the feelings in your heart. that is a good sign and a step towards beating depression. hopefully you have an encouraging family and friends to walk with you daily through this time of life. May God give you grace and strength to stand strong and be on solid footing, with great hope that this will turn out to be a great blessing in the end - aka no pain and better than normal function of your jaw.

Man, jaw stuff sucks. A few years ago I had a freak accident and broke my jaw.

Was playing a pickup basketball game with some other ex football guys and caught a shoulder coming down from a rebound. Completely cracked through my lower mandible and cracked some teeth.

Ended up having surgery, and they didn't set the brackets right, had to wait for swelling and stuff to go down and then have a second surgery about a month later. I was down for a long time.

Prior to breaking my jaw I was in prep for my first bodybuilding show, had just left my full time job with insurance and benefits to become a full time independent trainer, and a week after breaking the jaw found it we were having our first kid. Couldn't work for a few months, can't train if you can't eat or speak to people! And burned all of my savings on everything.

I was really depressed and stressed for a long time. Just gotta load more stuff on your shoulders and keep pushing forward until you make it better. Good luck.

thanks guys... I appreciate the prayers.... the waiting is killing me more than anything now. the doc last night made it pretty clear they wanted me in their office TODAY... but now they tell me they can't get me in till april 1.... apparently this isn't a big deal, but being out of commission for even longer is what is depressing.

at least I got my food plots done this past weekend.... hadn't had the energy to do anything at the lease and finally got out.

Once it gets fixed it will be that much sweeter for you. God bless and hang in there!
