    Catching a mole thread

I have seen several people ask about catching a mole and I set the traps on one over the weekend and took some pics to outline how I have 100% success on these little devils.

A big hill popped up Friday night.

I use a sharp shooter to punch around the hole until I find the tunnel. You will feel it when you hit it. This one was about 1' deep, but they are usually a little shallower than this. I then dig a small hole and clean out the tunnels

I use these traps that I picked up at TSC for cheap. I have used them for several years an caught probably 60-75 moles with this set.

Set the traps with a piece of string tying them to a stake to keep them from wondering off

Set them in the holes facing opposite directions so you can get him no matter which way he goes

Cover the hole to make it dark and go to bed. I put my shovel on it to keep a dog from getting to it.

Get up in the morning to claim your B&C mole!

I throw him back in the hole and cover him up and you are done until you see another mole hill.

Mole mounds are more round, with the hole in the middle. Gophers mounds are more crescent shaped, with the hole in the "cove" area of the crescent. Moles usually aren't as deep as the OP described. Moles eat grubs and worms, so they tunnel where the food is. When it rains, grubs and worms move up toward the surface, and mole tunnels can be seen as a rise in the ground. There are other traps for moles that are much easier than the OP's. Actually, the trap in the picture is a gopher trap, not a mole trap.

Best style trap on the market. Cheap and effective.

I was gonna say that's a gopher not a mole. My lacy has a passion for getting moles, which is cheap but sometimes he digs too much before he gets one. I've heard to drop a stick of juicy fruit gum in the hole and they will eat it but are unable to digest it will kill them. Haven't tried that yet as the dog gets all the ones inside the fence line.

Yep, but you really don't have to cover the hole. Once you find the tunnel, just stick trap in and walk away.
And if you have time, pull up a chair, a cold beer, and a 22. Shoot'em in the head when they come to close the hole up!!!

Need to borrow my Brittany? We use to have a few. Since I got him, they have disappeared.

That is a gopher. Moles are smaller and not as easy to trap.
