That isn't a very good practice to let the kids bring in wild animals. I would lay some money on it that the kid that brought the snake knew what it was before he brought it in.
For the people that think everyone in East Texas is a stupid redneck. Some of us are take exception to that. But I did hear that the Teacher was born in Arlington but moved to The Woodlands after grade school and Got a degree from Houston.
I have to differ with those bashing East Texas about this. The teacher obviously was not from East Texas or she would have known it was a cotton mouth. She must have moved to Big Sandy from Dallas or Houston. Now the kids that brought it probably new it was a cotton mouth and took it on purpose. I get this reasoning from the fact that I used to live 10 minutes from Big Sandy and my brother used to be the pastor at First Baptist of Big Sandy.
School Superintendent Scott Beene said students have been encouraged to bring in wild animals to be identified.
What? Bring in first, identify later? Very irresponsible "encouragement" on the school district's part.
What if a kid got bit before they even got to the school? Then whether the teacher could identify it or not wouldn't matter. Yes, the teacher may be stupid, but the whole policy is dangerous.
You can tell this teacher was not from east Texas. Out there a 2 yr olds knows a cotton mouth. Matter of fact they can tell what any animal is by the way the eyes reflect in a spotlight.
I agree the kid that brought it in, knew what he was doing. Unless it was the teacher in which case.... cha ching.
