    Lake Conroe, Upper End/National Forest/Jungle

Fellas who are familiar with the upper end of Lake Conroe, I need some info. We're kicking around the idea of purchasing a lot/house in the Wildwood subdivision up in the Sam Houston NF area, on the upper reaches of Lake Conroe.

Some questions I have, pertain to getting from the Stubblefield area out into the main lake. I know that the jungle is a precarious adventure at times, and I'm wondering just how tough it is when the lake is less than full. I'm 99% sure I'll purchase an aluminum boat when/if we buy a place, but would prefer a glass bay style boat (think along the lines of a Nautic Star, Blue Wave, etc) due to Conroe's tendency to get rough during the summer time, and the fact that we'll be fishing Livingston as well, which can get hairy quick when a thunderstorm rolls in.

Anyone with info/experience with the upper areas of the lake, please share your knowledge I'd greatly appreciate it. Anyone familiar with Wildwood Shores, anyone who owns property there/have stayed there/etc., please chime in as well

It's pretty dang shallow up there. Should be able.to.go to Google Earth and look at the archives from 2010-2011ish to see what it looks like in a drought.

I say get the bay boat for Livingston and South Conroe etc.
Then get a 15-16 ft flatbottom with a little tiller to run up into Stubblefield

Get the boat and lemme know. I'll show you how to run from wildwood to the da m as fast as you want to go.

Used to smash the ducks off the furthest point of that area. We'd launch below 1375 and run all that in the dark.

You have to run almost due west from WW till about 150/ 200 yards then south. Only tricky part is from WW till you get south of that little island

        Similar to this

1375 to 1097. Some guys run thru the middle of first jungle but I never learned that way

              Sounds good
I'll be honest, I hated seeing those houses built in there. Winter time was ducks, spring crappie and summer bow fish the flats.

I don't blame you one bit. But being minutes from hunting areas attracted me to it, and if I have to move back to the "city" for work, I want to be as far out in the country as possible, with a decent drive to the Woodlands as I can get. That seems perfect for me, waterfront property where I can fish in minutes, as well as good hunting just a short drive down the road I'm too used to being able to walk to the back of the property here and hunt. Hate to leave my little paradise spot in Bellville, but this branch of the in-laws company is taking off, and I've been recruited to be there 3 days a week to help, and come back up here 2 days a week to oversee the upkeep on the farm maintenance. So it looks like I'll be making the move in the next few months. As for now, I'll be driving in to the Woodlands 3 days a week.
