    Rattling up bucks.....

Just got a call from another fellow bowhunter on our ranch and he said he rattled up his first buck this year tonight.

Just wanted to pass that along as I was wondering when it might be a good time to start since it's been so warm lately, but we have a cold snap starting tomorrow and the mornings have been pretty cool.

Wait about another month or so. Probably just get young ones to come in this early.

Ya I thought so too, but was still surprised one came in at all. It was a smaller 8 point, but a good size 135-140 score class 8 point came in just as he was leaving as well

Ya yesterday we had several does at the feeder and after they left a buck came in with his nose to the dirt at a quick "trot" I'd say. He bypassed the feeder and kept on truckin' hot on those does "tails" the same direction they had left.

One of our hunters rattled one in that past weekend out in East Texas. Good deer, couldn't get the shot off.

                      Seven in N. Texas

Had seven bucks come by Saturday morning. All but one were younguns. I know for sure one responded to light tickling on the rattle bag. Watched him throw his head up about 200 yds out and head my way. Two other 6 pts. came like they were on a string to soft grunts. Should be a great youth hunt weekend coming up. I know the 11 yr old grandson is ready.

Had a 120 class 8 pt travel by about 80 yds out. He ignored my pleadings. Good, since he needed time to grow. Also saw three does, two yearlings and five turkeys.

Noticed they were ignoring the feeders. Lots of acorns which is typical this time of year. Hunt the funnels.

I'm seeing the smaller bucks starting to tickle around a little which is way earlier than most years...Moore area.

I wish our rut was still goin on! It's been over here in Brazoria Co. for about a week or two now! Our deer here start chasing a good 2 to 3 weeks before bow season even starts! Ifn were lucky...well catch the azz end of it opening weekend and mabe the first couple days of the week.

This morning I made a scrape line along a well used trail and put up some "active Skrape" lure at each one. a doe followed the scrape line and when I drew down on her as she was passing she spooked and ran off. Not a big deal except for the monster buck that was hot on her tail that I didn't see until she ran him off too
