    Arrow questions

How much of the old fletching glue residue to you get off before re-fletching?

Anyone ever tried to take off the arrow "label" (the marketing wrap around the middle of the arrow, that tells its brand/spine/etc)? If so, what is an easy way?

Starting to work on some arrows and I want them to look clean and simple.

You should get it all off. Carefully strip the vanes off and remove the remaining adhesive with whatever you are comfortable using. I use a box blade. Afterwards I very lightly sand the fletching area with 200 grit paper, once over. Wipe the worked area down with some Denatured Alcohol and have at it.

Although time consuming, this will work.
      I use furniture stripper, "strypeze".
I apply it to the shaft and let sit for 5 minutes or so, then wipe off, wipe down with acetone, then clean with denatured alcohol.

I get as much of the old adhesive off as I can, but I can feel that it's not perfectly smooth. I can't see it and it's not rough, seems if I keep scraping the carbon starts to scratch is when I call it good. As far as removing the label , I used to remove them on all my arrows, and would use goo gone and quite a bit of rubbing.

              Zip Strip!!

Quick rub down with an acetone soaked rag and they'll be clean as a whistle.

Yea, kind of why I don't take the labels off much any more my self. That and the fact that I have two different size shafts and when they are stripped It is hard to tell which one I was grabbing.

Just scrape the old glue off with a razor blade & refletch. Most of the glue manufacturers just say clean with soap & water. Sometimes the glue won't hold if you clean them with an alcohol or acetone.

Pretty much what I do as well. I use a vane stripper and a green Brillo pad to sand with though; rub down with denatured alcohol and glue the new vanes on.

I haven't been doing it for long, but this is what I do.

I use a knife, and I scrape the vane/feather off. Using a scraping angle, I keep scraping and scraping. You tend to see the "white" flakes of the glue coming off. I look and feel with my finger for spots that I have missed and keep scraping. This process takes about, I don't know 1-2 minutes per shaft. I wipe it down with denatured alcohol and call it good. Sometimes I can see a little bit of glue, but I don't worry about it.

I have refletched a dozen arrows and not had any issues with them coming off. If I were being paid, I'd figure out a way to remove all the glue. But since I can just refletch if I screwed up, I don't worry too much about it.

Thanks TBH! Cleaned it off by first boiling water, peeling off old fletching, acetone rag, 0000 brillo pad to finish up.

Then NAP black QuikFletch Twisters. Cant wait to fling em and see what happens.
