I believe the cat was already hit at least once and was still alive when the dogs caught up with it.
Good thing the guy had the stones to run in and finish him before any serious damage was done to his dogs.

I've heard of a guy doing the same thing with a black bear that was fighting dogs on the ground. The guy runs up, kicks the bear in the backside and when the bear turns around he sticks a 44 mag in it's open mouth and pulls the trigger.

Some guys are just crazy like that! LOL

Kitty wasn't too impressed with those hounds bothering him. Dudes got some serious nads to run up in amongst them like that. That aint no hog

True. I went swimming in a stock tank in February to keep big boar coon from drowning my Dad's Blue Tick. Danged coon then tried to crawl up on my back. Sure was a cold walk back to the truck.

Not all cats get up a tree before the dogs catch up to them. It's not all that uncommon for them to catch cats on the ground and it usually doesn't end well for the cat. Cats in the desert are more times than not bayed in rock piles and on the ground simply because there isn't a whole lot of trees.
