I have an opportunity for a new job that I wasn't even seeking.. The company called me straight out of the blue.. Although its about a $3.00 increase an hour and about $2,000 a month more. I'd be giving up a mon-fri 7a-4:30pm job where I might work 45 hours a week.. I'm home with my wife and child every night and on the weekends.. This new job is doubling my drive to work which is going to be 70 miles one way, opposed to working maybe 45 hours i'll be working 60 hours a week now, and not sure what days off I'll have.. My question to you is, is the money worth the quality of life I have now? I worked shift work before this job so its nothing new for us, we are just enjoying the free time we have now but not the living paycheck to paycheck for say....

its not the "shift work" we're use to.. its not rotating between days and nights.. I'd have the same schedule with same days off.. 7A-7P would be the shift.. As far as lower our budget, we've done that.. I shouldn't say live paycheck to paycheck as we have several hundred left over each paycheck, but with this job it will be almost 2k left over after all bills

Now that I'm a little older my advice would be to earn less and spend more time with the family. Teach them to appreciate what they have and spend quality time with them every chance you get.
I told myself when I was younger that I was "working hard to give them a better life". The only "more" they wanted was more of me. Now I make time for them every chance I get but they are adults. I'll never get those earlier years back.

It's really hard to put a price on time off with the family!
Plus a 70 mile one way commute seems like way too much!
We can pay the bills no problems, some weeks are better than others but they all get paid. I don't stress much over money but the wife sure does. I took a pay cut coming over to this job for the more time at home job.. I've been here for about a year now and to be honest, I think we both miss the bigger paychecks.. I told her I'd accept the job if she was ok with the hours and if we didn't automatically start accruing more financial bills as I want to save for a deer lease... HA
